We are fortunate enough to have the use of a large piece of land, that is perfect for Airsoft, to use on a weekly basis. The land is owned by Zippo's Mother, and she is very kind to allow us to use it, and litter it with white BB's!

The Field

The photo above shows the main, open field of the land. The woods to the left, that you can only just see in this photo, are where we play most of our games. The open field is only utilized for a few games, such as free for alls, and Fort games. For Fort games, we use the round, center wooded area as a base. One team defends from inside the base, while the other team assaults. In years past, the field around the fort has been grown up enough as to provide ample cover ..... sadly this year the field had been kept mowed, and is subsequently not the ideal terrain to use for a base assault, due to ZERO cover. We are thinking that if no crops are grown on the land in following years, we will have to build some structures or barricades on the land to improve the game.

For now the majority of the games are played in the woods to the left of the photo. The wooded area consists of 4 or 5 depressions in a row, in the ground, that we call "bowls". They are obviously some kind of sink hole' but they have no actual resultant hole in the center, and are perfectly safe to play in without any risk of a cave-in. The bowls create a varied and interesting woodland environment, where there is plenty of natural cover all year round. It's fun to try and take the high ground, and the obvious advantage that goes with it, from the opposing team.

In the summer, the bowls are a perfect place to play, because they are consistently around 10-15 degrees cooler than the open field. On the flip side of this advantage, because the depressions in the ground are low lying in comparison to surrounding land, the bowls tend to remain extremely humid after rain has fallen. We find that during these times, a clear plastic face mask or any kind of goggles are almost completely useless, unless we use mesh goggles or employ some kind of active air circulation to our goggles. Mainframe recently modded his clear face mask to include a battery powered fan, which he has used with great success. The rest of us simply resort to using the trusty old mesh masks instead, during particularly humid times.
